Artist Statement about the Sea Foam & Scenic series vases
Sea Foam and Scenic pieces use bubbles in their decoration that seems to enhance the liquid appearance. This look is complemented further by the use of only transparent colors and the most flowing shapes I can possibly make. These bubbles are made using a chemical, soda ash, which is used in the melting of the glass. The soda ash (almost the same composition as baking soda) is placed in between the layers of glass and releases the gas when then new layer of hot glass is placed over it. All of the glass is completely blown without molds using a high quality, low-iron, lead-free glass.
